The Georgian Alphabet: All 33 Mkhedruli Letters

Mkhedruli (მხედრული) is the modern Georgian script used for books, signs, messages and everyday writing. Georgian speakers call their language kartuli ena (ქართული ენა). Mkhedruli developed as the secular member of Georgia's three-script tradition, alongside the older Asomtavruli and Nuskhuri forms.

Modern Mkhedruli contains 33 letters written from left to right. It has no uppercase and lowercase split, so each letter keeps the same basic form wherever it appears. In 2016, UNESCO added the living culture of Georgia's three writing systems to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Mkhedruli is known for rounded forms, loops and connected curves. It has no uppercase and lowercase split: the same letter shape appears in sentences, titles, names and signs.
